Nau mai haere me ki te Mana Koha!

Welcome to Mana Koha. We’re a family owned Maori taonga shop with a vast variety of Pounamu/Greenstone, beef bone, wooden, and whalebone jewellery.

Our kaupapa (philosophy) is to provide service to people who have varying degrees of understanding surrounding the Maori world, or te Ao Maori, and guiding them through the tapu (sacred) journey of finding a meaningful taonga (treasure) for a loved one or themselves. We have two pathways for achieving this, and offer a unique service for those who aren’t sure what to purchase, and need guidance from tangata whenua Maori.

Head over to our shop, or read below for more information.

  • What makes us unique?

We guide you through the blessing process, and have a Chaplain on our team who blesses your taonga. All taonga must be blessed, as the art of carving and the materials are given to us by Papatūānuku, Mother Earth. And the carving process is sacred, with the carver praying karakia over their work. For the taonga to be respectful, and bring out the best in the wearer, it must be blessed and made noa (free, released from restriction).

  • We have two primary methods of achieving this kaupapa.

Firstly you can choose one of the items from our shop that catches your eye, and we’ll be able to bless it and ship it to you as soon as is convenient. Our Chaplain typically blesses on Mondays, but please be in touch if you need this done urgently.

The second pathway you can take for finding yourself or a loved one a taonga is the Kaiwhakawairua pathway. This process involves reaching out to our team, explaining what the gift is for, who the gift is for, and what you would like blessed into the taonga. You will go through the process of picking the right shape, size, and material for gifting or buying for yourself.
